Hello everyone! These last few weeks have been like a rollercoaster, we’ve been super busy every minute of every day. Then we’ll have a day to regroup, reorganize and gear back up to start our next project. We love this time of the year here at the Chamber. The next couple months we are busy planning, organizing and working hard on our events.
August was just the preparation to a busy September and October. This year’s 2019 Motorcycle Rally Rumble in the Mountains kicks off Thursday night, September 12th downtown in the Pocket Park. The parade to the Cowboys of the Ashpalt Party starts at 5:30pm. Horse Pen Ranch Chuck wagon will be serving some great BBQ, Poteau Mainstreet Matters, Inc. “Historic Downtown Poteau will be serving drinks and adult beverages. Then Billy Hoffman and friends will hit the stage at 7:00pm. This event is open to the public and is sure to be a great time. We will be there selling Poteau BalloonFest memorabilia, t-shirts, family armband packages, midget wrestling ring side and VIP tickets as well as our Rumble in the Mountain T-shirt. So, come out and have a good time with us!

We are on a roll in September! The next Friday, September 20th we have our Southeastern Oklahoma Regional Women’s Business Summit. This is a one-day event that is designed to encourage, support and equip women in business. It’s an opportunity to network and gain exposure to your business. We have vendors and an excellent speaker. This year is Lissa Qualls with Clarity, LLC, she’s fun and energetic. We can’t wait to see what se has in store for us. This is an annual event through our partnership with REI Women’s Business Center, The Community State Bank, SBA US Small Business Administration and NeighborWorks Chartered Member. It’s Friday September 20th beginning at 8:30am to 3:00pm, register online through www.reiwbc.org. We hope you are able to come!
Last but not least, we have our 3rd Old Frisco Trail ½ Marathon/ 15k and the 2nd BBQ Smack Down and Chicken Wing Eating Contest on September 28th. We are proud of these events because the proceeds from both go back into the community. We have great plans for the Old Frisco Trail and we are on our way. Through our partnership with Snyder Lawn Care, Rails to Trail and the Wister Lake Association we can procure the future of the trail. In the last three years we’ve rebuilt bridges, added a parking lot, benches and trash cans along the trail with the matching funds from the event. Partnering with the Choctaw Nation PACE program again this year allows us to share all the thing the trail offers and shows progress. Through our registration we can raise the funds needed to restore and maintain the trail. Now the BBQ Smack Down will be in the Donald W. Reynolds Center Parking lot in conjunction with the Old Frisco Trail ½ Marathon/15k. Team entry is free and judging starts at 10:30 am, but we had contestants come out on Friday night and cook all night long. We encourage all you BBQ Masters to come join in this fun and you could possibly win some cash! If you don’t cook BBQ but you love to eat it, perfect! We are selling $8.00 tickets and you can enjoy BBQ samplings from all the contestants with beans, bread and a water. You then can use that ticket to pick who you think has the best BBQ. The proceeds from this event goes to the Poteau Humane Society, help us raise money for such a great cause!
